The Clara thread is an interesting case study on how much a VTuber's roommate matters in the enjoyment of content.

In theory, Clara is doing things (mostly) right from a "purist" VTubing perspective (i.e. the pilot's off-stream activities shouldn't matter), since all the sperging happens on an account not linked to her VTubing persona in any way. In practice, you can't fully separate the on-stream persona from the person behind the model.

I still tune in to her sometimes, and I kind of agree, but that's why it's interesting. If you take the "traditional" view that the VTuber is a character first and foremost, then the off-stream politisperging shouldn't matter at all, since the character Clara isn't a hardcore lib and hasn't caused any issues for the company (that we know of). But as you say, it's a bit hard to get over what the roommate says. Still, if the RM account was never discovered, then things would be different, wouldn't it?

It's just interesting especially considering the supposed Lumi BF yab and "what is GFE" convo in the past few pages. VTubers are entitled to a private life, but it comes with a huge asterisk in practice. At this point, I've come to hand-wave it all with, "It depends".

It's annoying how obsessed some people here have gotten over that account and the weird shit she posts. As you said, if they hadn't gone out of their way to dig it up, they wouldn't even know she posts that stuff because she never brings her private life onto stream.

But that just brings up the point that any other or even all the Phase girls could be just like Clara in real life and as long as they aren't found out they will never have any way of knowing (in the exact same way that boyfriend yabs work). They'll jerk off about how based the "good" vtuber is but they don't actually know any of these girls and they could all be playing a character just like Clara is.

Especially in how some of them seem to be genuinely hoping there is some kind of major fallout between her and the "good" talents, just to validate their hate for her opinions. But maybe it hasn't happened, because they actually agree with her? Or maybe the private Clara account is the fake one larping as a turbo leftist and the vtuber is the real one. Who the hell knows.

Note how she has never once acknowledged any of the backlash Offkai has gotten over that incident and Kirsche has never raided her again after that. So if I remember the details correctly based on what Kirsche has said and other publicly available info, here's what i remember and have kinda pieced together-

1) Kirsche announces she got invited to an 18+ voice acting panel. Doesn't mention who the panel host is.
2) The day before Kirsche is set to announce the full details, Offkai uninvites her - claiming volunteers pressuring them. Kirsche alludes to the person who ran the panel seemingly did nothing to assist her or back her up, but never names them publicly.
3) Nyaru is the only person hosting an 18+ voice acting panel when all things are said and done. Nyaru is also in an executive role with Offkai, meaning she probably has high level access to most of the back end discussions going on.
4) This year, chatter from ex-staff reveals it was actually executives that decided to blackball Kirsche.

Thus, it's pretty easy to conclude that Nyaru is a spineless clout chaser who - despite having a level of power within offkai - decided not to exercise it at all to stand up for the person SHE HERSELF invited to join a panel. She wanted to keep her own cushy job furthering her own power and place in the community, and did nothing to back up Kirsche.
