I should probably add in that that inland north west (east Washington, east Oregon, western Montana, and Idaho in general except Boise) are pretty good, state politics may be dominated by left leaning big cities but they don't have much impact on local affairs, and in Idaho Boise actually gets overruled by the rest of the state a lot. Winters aren't too bad in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho unless you live literally on a mountain. Washington has no state income tax, Oregon and Montana have no sales tax. Land, power, and water are all pretty cheap. Overall pretty okay, except internet service providers suck.
