For me, I got ads or recommendations on youtube that usually leads me to vtubers. Highlight being Tomoe Umari with her "2024 presidency" ads or when I found JP indie vtuber QuonTama because YT recommended me her cover of the opening of old anime Gunslinger Girls.
Another way for me is, not really joking, porn.
I have found at least one indie JP vtuber through a hentai doujin that is essentially a giant advertisement for said vtuber (has the character being the vtuber as the star of the doujin, and the entire thing is drawn by the designer papa of said vtuber), which includes a QR code that would sent you to her youtube channel if you scan it. Aside of that, back in the day I found Nijisanji frankly through NSFW as well.
(EDIT: Oh right, also found Whiskey Project from the NSFW too. Those warcrime-related R18 artists I swear...)
Honestly, aside of those stuff I got my recommendations from other people. Be it from folks I saw on discord servers, seeing it from IRL convention/cosplays or even on places like homeland's vtuber thread and the very asylum here. Thanks to you lot, I find myself rooting for the funny japanese fox woman of phase connect.

This place, although I rarely follow up on the majority of them. I often get recommended a bunch of 1/2 views by the YT overlords. Majority of them are brainsucking asmrtists though, the rest are usually vermintide or nips, and I sure can't understand what either of them are saying.
