Even people on welfare have had iPhones for many years now. If anything it's one of the least costly items in a starting VTuber set up.
Simple solution for avoiding this, plug your webcam into a USB hub that has shutoff buttons for each port and keep it turned off until you actually want to use it. Or even cheaper just unplug the thing when not needed.

Clio mentioned she had to convince Sakana that shelling out for an original orchestral BGM would be okay because she's not the type to do anything music related otherwise, and she phrased it as "blow all of my budget in one go". I wonder if it actually cost a significant multiple of the normal Phase budget for a song, or if just costing a few times more was enough to trigger Sakana's penny-pinching instincts.
Found a place that lets you pay for audio recording of an orchestra online. It's not what Clio used but should give a decent ballpark for the costs involved:

I think it was worth it - it set a really good first impression to start the debuts off, and fit Clio's tone and style really well, from what I can see. Good job on that, Fishman.
