Holy fuck. I knew Uruka was a sheltered rich kid because she goes to UCLA. But damn her standards really put into perspective how much that warps someone's worldview. Makes me appreciate the former broke girls like Pippa and Kanata even more, at least they understand how bat-shit insane it is to require an income of 90k out of potential suitors, much less the other stuff Uruka brings up.

For future reference, women of the Asylum (all two of them that haven't managed to escape yet). There are few turn-offs bigger than demanding high income out of a guy, because what that tells me is that there is a certain amount of my money that you would like to spend. You're only making that amount of money if you get nepo hired or you have an in into higher management. The average computer science graduate that has actual good connections, leverages them and is lucky makes over 100k annually. Most are either still looking for employment because job requirements are ridiculous nowadays or are still in entry positions.

You fr? Fresh grads going to Meta, G, Pltr, Databricks, Roblox etc hit 190-240k. Smarter ones going to Jane Street, Citadel, HRT etc and printing >400k. You are mostly right, but you are forgetting FAANG (which can actually be MANGA now, last I checked) exists. If you are the very select, fortunate few of CS graduates (incredibly unlikely), then it isn't unheard of making a starting of 150k+, especially when living in the more HCOL kind of areas.

Last I checked, the median starting salary for CS graduates is around ~70-75k nationally. Obviously LCOL and HCOL areas exist, but I don't think the typical starting salary of a graduate in a HCOL area would exceed 120k.

He quit for another job when his daughter was born because it was too much.

Welcome to the start-up industry. A modest angel investor will spend 100k on like 50 different startups for $5 million total. It doesn't matter if 49 of the startups go down in flames and they lose all their money in them, they just need 1 startup to gain traction so they'll either explode to become 100x their worth or get bought out by Google for $10+ million. There's A LOT of angel investors, so it's not surprising in the slightest.

FAANG definitely will pay their employees well, but the super crazy salaries (even the ones from FAANG) ultimately aren't necessarily the norm. Tech fields in general pay well, but those 150k+ stories are the success ones. It should also be noted that these wages/salaries are self-reported as far as I am aware- meaning it will always skew a bit higher than lower.

I knew a guy who got a starting position for Avanade, and his salary was only 83-85k; I knew another who got one for CISCO, about 95k. Granted, for the Avanade guy, I recall him mentioning that employees in the HCOL areas would be making more (since he worked remotely), but the difference was supposedly only 15-20k more.

Not that odd for Canada, brain drain goes to America in tech for a reason. All things considered I believe that salary in general is pretty decent (those high tech salaries tend to be really only accomplished in America for the most part) for Canada.
