After nearly two weeks of trialling the split threads, I have to say... I think the quality of conversation on here has dipped. Feels more cliquey. Feels like there's less meaningful criticism and pushback in the split threads. Feels like the posts, and the content of the posts, are lower-quality.

The exception to this is the Nijisanji thread, in spite of stricter rules. It's nice to have some pro-Nijisanji content, I think the forum's been missing that. But that thread almost had to exist as a counterbalance to the pit of negativeness that is the Nijisanji L thread.

Maybe people were putting in more effort when non-fans were also reading their posts. Maybe the magic sauce is occasionally calling eachother retards and fags. I'm no good at expressing why it is, it's just the vibes I'm feeling right now.

What is everyone else thinking, though?

As someone who was okay with the move at the time, since I wanted to see what the effect would be. Now that that has taken place and there's concrete evidence to be examined, here are my thoughts:
  • The split would've made much more sense if the General thread was at a pace of say, at least 80-100 pages a day with several dozens users engaging at once.
  • I have to agree in that the sense of community has died down significantly since the split and now we have different groups of people who will almost never interact due to different tastes in vtubers.
  • The indie threads see almost no use most of the time, and it was pointed out pre-move that there would be no exposure for those indies shilled, which has now been proven.
I'd write this off as a failed experiment, even though that wasn't the original intent. We can always revisit this idea with more clarity and community feedback when the time is right.

I'm not sure why Proctor thought there would be enough posting to warrant one indie thread, let alone two.

At least they got more posts than the VHoeShow thread.

Splitting information across multiple threads made it more tribalistic/less debatable, it's too annoying to keep track and pull back information and quote through five pages.

Shilling in their respective threads bring no awareness to peers that ought to see it because they're not engaged in certain corners of the scene.

I think everyone should just go back to General Thread because this walled garden experience is gayer than sucking dick and we have @VSoyBoy here, ffs.

Just to clarify, I think gatekeeping is based and necessary, but segregating inside the niche is retarded, people already chose to not engage with what they don't want and honestly, it's a vibe check; a maturity test to not start shit and filter bad actors outta here*.
* the exception being the Pippa thread and the Kirsche thread for what their community and content are, respectively.

It could also be that new posters are actually reading the guidelines as well.

I made a comparison of the post numbers of the last seven days and the seven days directly before the split.
Not really scientific mind you, there are events that will affect the post volume completely irrespective of thread structure. Also, from the little I saw of it, the Phase thread sometimes has the same tendency as the Pippa thread to essentially use the thread as an instant messaging service.

There also is a lot of cross-posting to general. I personally feel the need to cross-post a lot of stuff from the the smaller threads to general to get any kind of discussion going, and stuff like the NijiHolo Interleague ends up getting posted three times to three different threads, both for the initial speculation as well as the final announcement.

Thread splits lowered interactions and discussions on the same topic
There are threads that are used more than other and the difference is abysmal

The experiment failed.

While it is nice to talk about (corpo I like) without getting dunked on instantly. The split only really benefited phase and Niji, phase because they actually use their thread and Niji because they don't get bullied.

Holo thread instantly made everybody lose their shit and the indie threads don't get used enough to really warrant their existence.

Delete all of them except Niji, if anyone wants their own """hugbox""" thread then give them an anti thread too so people can seethe.

I don't really see much of a difference other than the slight increase in activity. Admittedly, I also look into all threads sans the Pippa one (and admittedly, while I wasn't among the people Proctor talked to, I have been in favor of a thread split before; personal biases and all).

This may be different for users who really do only care for their little corner. But then again, did these users really "bite" when exposed to another vtuber/corpo or just scroll over them?

I mean, I don't know. I did bite, but I also do keep looking into almost every thread.

The Niji thread is definitely better than Nijiposting was before, though. Scuttle would've appreciated it, I think.

It helps that the niji thread is focused mostly on the talents that are fun to watch.

Was it an experiment? Isn't it here to stay? I thought Proctor was fucking us like the average web designer.

My experience with the skimming of the Holo thread was pre-dedicated thread Fes liveposting and clip compilation posts
The Phase thread turns into the laugh/sperg at Clara/Kelsie or whatever thread everytime she posts something retarded (so all her posts)

Small indies were predictably larger because its what people like but it still feels very dead
Large indies is a really shit thread since its pretty much just Doki or Mint with a Nimi here and there since other larger indie posters just post on the general thread
I found it honestly funny that the VSJ thread has 10 replies total as of this post, and half of those are Vsoyboy

Niji general being turned into Rosemi and friends is a pretty good shitpost though

18% of the Niji thread is also me, and it's only that low because of Rosemi posting.

I'm also very annoyed I have to trawl through 15 pages of polisperging discussion to post about my oshi, when in the general that shit would have burnt out after 3 or 4 pages. You're beating a dead horse, can we talk about actual streams?

Hololive discussion quantity and quality has nose-dived. Indie discussion and visibility is worse than it's ever been, same for Vshojo and other large twitch streamers. Phase discussion quantity increased but quality is at its lowest mark ever. The Niji thread is the only real beneficiary so far.

Please revert the changes and bring us back to general and liveposting.
