Consider the following; There are just some people who are really good at working low level jobs. Their "advancement" will probably be becoming management and some of them would be better fit than some middle aged dude with a business degree.
Counterpoint: I cannot fucking stand being stuck in a line because the cashier just wants to rabbit with everyone they serve. They need some kind of incentive to get on with it.
