Actually just looked up the Steam user reviews and it's currently getting review-bombed and current reviews are at "Mixed".
Which version? There's the old game and the "remastered" version that runs like dogshit and has new bugs done by Private Division aka 2K.

I hate to sound negative but why do they expect us to pay more for WORSE GAMES

At least when PC games were like 80 bucks in the 90s you got like a fucking encyclopedia with them.

Just fucking download Daggerfall and have a good time, my god, fuck this Microsoft pansy ass milquetoast garbage

Didn't people like the first one? Won't this tank any goodwill they have? They don't have Nintendo money or game so they can't ride it out or rely on fanboys

You're thinking of Outer Wilds, not Outer Worlds.

An understandable mistake, I make it all the time.

at best people were ambivalent towards outer worlds when it finally released.
Some tinfoil hat conspiracy i've seen is that its partially to get more people on gamepass

With the way Xbox seems to be running game pass, getting a game with a production cost under 20 mil USD out the door and on Gamepass, as the "big" game that month seems to be profitable for the studio and Xbox. But, it creates a scenario where the "GamePass Game" is starting to form. It frankly is a return to the "step above shovelware" titles on the PS2. I don't actually have a problem with this, but they really need to adjust their marketing for these games when they do that.

Also, for as much as Clair Obscura has sold really well, that 40+ hour runtime on GamePass might actually net them more money from Xbox than they got in direct sales. Especially as it's going to drag on for months being the game to play on the platform.

Very few titles were that expensive back then. Yes, there were some titles before the big SNES boom that were way too expensive, but, even then, most of their main line big titles were around the $40 USD range on PC until the late 90s. It's also really important to remember there was a robust used market for console games and a big rental scene. Buying first run games outright didn't start to get big until around Starcraft? Even then, that model of buying didn't take off until the mid-2000s. The Halo 3 launch obvious happened, but that still did more sales later in the holiday season. Games are becoming too heavily front-loaded like Movies.

And understandable mistake, I make it all the time.

That happened so often.

Killer Instinct 2013-ass looking Invincible fighter.
Fixed that for you. It's apparently a lot of the people who worked at Double Helix. so Season 1 Specifically.
Max seems to have an insider at the Devs. It appears to be from the Killer Instinct 2013 crew that came back to make another game, and he seems to have playtested it somewhat.

Fucking clock me.

they even came out around the same time and if you squint a bit they even share a few themes.

like Existentialism and the DLC being dogshit.

I think he's referring to the collector's editions of PC games in the 90s, which had even bigger boxes filled with all sorts of physical goodies.

The Outer Worlds 1 was mediocre dogshit, however, it was put out at a time where anti-Bethesda sentiment was at it's absolute peak and people were so desperate for another title to be majorly succesful in the single-player Fallout-esque niche (especially from Obsidian) to spite them that they all collectively gaslit themselves into believing otherwise. It's honestly one of the weirdest collective bait-and-switch moments I've seen surrounding a game that then immediately evaporated from public consciousness just as soon as they didn't need to keep up the pretense.

i remember otherwise. the problem was it being a slog to play through not because its a game that feels bad to play but because everything boiled down to every single story being a pissing contest between how many human rights violations a corporation can pile up.

your sick of it by time you leave planet one and its even worst in planet 2.

and there no "break" from it. Life in the wastes can be horrid yes but there were jokes there was stupid shit there were messiahs and Pariahs in equal measure and unlike worlds in fallout you can actually affect massive change

It's not a "bad" Game but god is it frigging miserable.

What were your takeaways from this last week of announcements? For me:
- TMNT Michelangelo in THPS3+4
-
Super Meat Boy 3D
- Clockwork Revolution
- Scott Pilgrim EX
- Mina the Hollower release date (oct 31st)
- WU-TANG RISE OF THE DECEIVER BABYYYYYYYYYYYY
- New multiplayer Bloodstained
- Digimon Time Stranger release date (oct 3rd)
- FFT remaster, I guess
- Hirogami release date (sep 3rd)
- Lumines Arise
- Ninja Gaiden Ragebound release date (july 31st)
- Nioh 3 (one of the few great rollslops)
- Romeo is a Dead Man (new SUDA)
- Ryukishi's Silent Hill F release date (sep 25th)
- Thief VR

I could make an entire essay about Marvel Tokon but I don't want to be stressed on the current state of fighting games, I'll just put that ASW is taking all that is wrong with their game design and packaging with the best graphics we're going to see for a while. It's not gonna fail, but I can't wait to see people stressed by Pachi's shit ideas.

The Outer Worlds' writing was already shit and redditifed, Avowed just showed they went all in with current year so i expect it to be even worse, heavy-handed, and milquetoast

There was alot wrong with Outer Worlds 1. Here's what I can think off the top of my head.
1. You're right it came off hot off the press with record high anti-Bethesda which they inadvertently help by proclaiming Leonard Boyarsky and Tim Cain of FO1 fame were the heads behind it.
2. The writing is extremely mediocre and the gameplay not all there thanks to an inexperienced new team majority of women hires.
3. One of the earliest bait and switches of Epic Exclusives to happen. If I recall, it was leaked that even the devs were not informed until last minute Obsidian decided to take Tim Sweeney money.

Mostly didn't pique my interest but there are a few things:

Summer Games Fest
  1. Game of Thrones RTS looks interesting, a surprise to see in this event
  2. Lies of P shadowdrop was welcome, though I have yet to buy the game :BijouBijou:
  3. Mecha Break release date at last, along with the much-needed changes they announced on Twitter. I'm mostly here for the PVP

Xbox Games Showcase
  1. Mudang looks sweet, the Splinter Cell we haven't gotten in a long time

PC Gaming Show
  1. Neverwinter Nights 2 enhanced is cool, except it's made by Aspyr and not Beamdog, who remastered the first game. Therefore, I'm very skeptical of its quality.
  2. Pathfinder Diablo looks fun, a shame I most likely won't have anyone to play it with, so I'll have to pass
  3. New Barotrauma expansion looks dope. Gonna be interesting to see how they handle the base building. A little bummed it's paid though
  4. FBC is another game that looks very enjoyable with friends. It's due to come in just over a week so I'm curious how it'll perform.
  5. Endless Legend 2 reminded me that I still have to give 1 and Endless Space 1 a shot given I got them as freebies.
  6. Bus Bound piqued my interest the most. I really enjoy Snowrunner so and this looks to be right up my alley, with some shared mechanics.

It's more in the vein of the last two action heavy Splinter Cell, regardless, it looks like a fun time. Hopefully, it's not too demanding of a game.

I was just thinking about it, but the anti-capitalist stories from major companies are fundamentally Das Boot clones. There's no one in the major gaming publishers that are capable of threading that type of needle for storytelling, which is why it always seems so terrible.

When I was watching the Mudang trailer, I unironically realized I could go for some Spliter Cell. Leave it to Ubisoft to drop another IP on its head.

The Horn of the Abyss mod for HoMMIII, a more than 25 year old game, is now available on GOG. so I thought this might be a a good opportunity to talk about all the stuff surrounding the Heroes of Might & Magic series this year.

A book is being written about the extensive history of the series by one of the former game developers. He says he will touch upon the main Might & Magic series as well, going back to when Jon Van Caneghem was taking mail orders out of his basement.

The Horn of the Abyss team is already working on releasing on a new faction.

And a new entry in the series, Olden Era, should be out sometime soon. We'll see how well it holds up to the series' reputation.

It warms my heart how much love this series still gets after all these years. Anyone else play these games? I know we have some slavs here...

What if instead of getting preemptively upset over another 10 years of Naoto & Kanji discourse we instead focus our feelings into being positive and hyped for different ps2 era kinoge Atlus title getting a remake and releasing soon, like... I dunno....
