I am considering lending a little credit to the Sayu rrat, if i'm honest.
Since it is now pretty much confirmed that the June auditions were to get Clio some genmates, and both Mari and Eeper got picked up via those auditions, but we also know that negotiations between Sayu and Phase were happening at some point before those auditions were ever a thing.

So honestly you can bend the timeline enough to support the "it was supposed to be a handpicked wave debut, but some negotiations fell through and Phase decided to do public auditions for Clio's genmates instead" theory.

I’ve seen Sayu reply to 2 of the 3 Quest members Tweets. Imagine Sayu instead of Sleepy as the third member.

Interesting that Sayu to borrow from wrasslin' didn't give Sleepy her flowers for getting in. While Sayu would have been a decent grab for Phase I'm extremely happy Sleepy got in. I hope Sayu isn't holding a grudge against Sleepy cause that would be insane considering Sayu seemingly tanked the deal and in doing so kinda fucked Clio over with debut.
