Its a gray area, more than a few racers, trainers, and owners in the past have been given the boot over discovered ties to the Yakuza, so its hard to say how deep that actually goes. But people acting like they would not have at least one finger in the gambling pie are retards IMO. Just hard to say if their control over it extends to the point that the game would matter to them.

its bullshit. the modern yakuza is in heavy decline; members get put on a list that gives them -100000000 social credit so they cant own bank accounts, cell phones or rent apartments. Its bad for a corp to do business them, etc. in a decade their numbers have halved. Yakuza auteur Beat Takeshi made a comedy movie about the modern yakuza called Ryuzo and the Seven Henchmen, where aged yakuza lament the modern criminal world. The reality is that the new bad guys are simple thugs and scammers.

Also, just that historically, the organized crime is very in bed with horse racing and more specifically the gambling around it, are they the owners of the horses? Rumor has it that the owners of some famous named betting horses in Japan are "bought out" in a similar fashion to Sumo wrestlers by the Yakuza.

The reality is that the new bad guys are simple thugs and scammers.

You can say this about like, literally every Mafia/Criminal organization (Cartels, Russian/Italian Mafias, Triads etc etc) in the modern day. Most who get caught are just thugs and scammers.

yeah, the decline of the italian mob in the us has the same cause. its not as prevelant as it was just 20 years ago. there are yakuza sponsors of sumo stables but again as the years go by their involvement declines because theyre all dying off.
