I'm raging a bit after hearing her say this. She is an amazing artist but she doesn't know how to market herself. As someone in chat said, Furry porn is a goldmine. If not just draw whatever. I have seen dogshit artists charge $200 for a poorly drawn, poorly colored drawing and their commissions being full. Shiina can charge $75 for black and white sketch-like drawings that could take her 2 hours at most to make. Hell, she could talk to Sakana about letting her do commission work using her Vtuber account to promote herself so that she can sign the art with her Vtuber name.

That might bring some issues in case someone is not happy with the work but I feel like many of the fans and other people in the Vtuber community would love to have a sketch by her. Basically, it's personalized merch. Shiina original sketch for $75-$100 would be better merch than a random keychain or acrylic stand. Or to avoid issues with people not being satisfied with the art, she could just make the art upfront, and people buy what they want. Anything beats working at FUCKING STARBUCKS for minimum wage 4 hours a day dealing with shitheads.

I hadn't thought of this, but that's amazing. You could even make it a holiday special thing and probably sell it for way more, there's an insane possible premium for personalized merch in the world of mass produced products. Hell, putting a serial number on cards in popular card games is enough to drive shit through the roof and misprints are insanely valuable.

Just shows how much the fish squanders his talent's abilities.

Thats the thing, artists, and esp menhera artists, DO NOT WANT TO DRAW FOR MONEY. Reasons being:
1) fear of burning out
2) fear of artist block hitting
3) fear of underperforming on a comission, dissapointing the customer
4) fear of not being able to complete a comission in time and having to explain that to the customer
5) fear of the customers themselves
6) not feeling that they are good enough to draw for money and, as you said, not knowing how to market themselves

It don't know what level she was at for her job, but it would be pretty crazy and honestly not that hard to believe that Musk went around acting like a horndog flirting with female employees. I don't have the time to keep up with all the phase girls, but do any of do draw streams? She could do draw streams and commisions on stream for content. Plus if she draws irl she could put her drawings up on etsy or ebay and make money that way.

I don't fully get it either. I could understand if you were just starting out, but even then if someone offered to pay me for a piece I did wouldn't just reject it.

Shiina does drawing streams - a mix of practice sketching (she feels like her skills have dropped off) and painting. She's a great artist but really lacks confidence.

What she should do is hold an art auction stream. She puts up some pieces that she's drawn/painted IRL and sells them to the highest bidder. I know a group of online artists that do this once every three months and it's a decent earner for them. Combine it with streaming the creation of the art pieces and also make it content for her channel.

My suggestion for merchandise - a Phase Connect calendar. I've seen calendars work elsewhere as merchandise, especially when there are large pictures of a cute woman involved. There's no reason the same thing wouldn't work when it involves cute anime women instead. Calendars are also easy to make and cheap to ship as far as merchandise goes. It's too late to do anything but a basic calendar with artwork for 2023 - I'm sure the Fish could make it work when money is involved - but they could get the work underway for a quality 2024 calendar and have plenty of time to commission new art.

Where Shiina would come into it is to have her get paid for a few commissions for the calendar. Shiina does the art in real life for the calendar. Have some of the characters in different poses, different outfits or with different background, a few different group shots, whatever. Maybe include one or two slightly yabai art pieces, like beach or hotspring outfits. After the calendar gets launched, Shiina can then sell some of the original art for the calendar, and she and the other sadgirls can split their portion of the revenue from the calendar sales.

Anyway, I think it's a good idea that could make them all some money.
