However reducing carbs drastically and pushing down insulin does have effects on how the body prioritizes fat burn and even which fat gets burned. Part of how ketosis works so fast in the early stages before your stabilize again is that it's actually rather inefficient when your body is burning fat instead of carbs, you literally piss out excess ketones so while CICO still applies there is now an inefficiency factor added in. I also found from my food logs that I was frequently undereating by as much as 1k calc per day when on that diet, which is why it works well for cutting fat but sucks for trying to actually build muscle. The body also usually prioritizes burning visceral fat over subcutaneous when insulin is low, something I've confirmed in myself from my diet logs and DEXA scans over the past two years.
