I'd say it's more likely that she doesn't want to go back to Canada because she doesn't want to deal with her family, even temporarily. Alternatively, if she has bad memories of Canada (fair, it's Canada), or she left Canada because she wanted to make a new life and personality for herself elsewhere she might not want to return to Canada, even temporarily.
