Ekko, I've seen it said before somewhere... you are really bad about pretending you don't want/expect fans to give you money when you know damn well they will give you money. It happened when you put up the "long term" 3D model goal last year, it happened recently when you put the fan on Throne and acted surprised at how quickly it got funded, and again now with this "This is totally a joke... ahahHAHAH..." Throne post.


Maybe other people feel differently... I understand I'm about as far from a whale as possible - I went almost 5 years watching VTubers without giving one a cent before I membered to you as Kilia - but I still think this is a really bad look. I originally started wondering if I'd found an oshi when Kilia asked people to stop donating to her after her shed burnt down and asked they instead consider donating to your kohai who was having an event at the time... this kind of stuff is the exact opposite of why I started following you.

Others have seen how incredibly effective a tactic it is to buy into the whole 'bully the streamer with money!' kayfabe and cynically exploit it.

I'm not saying Ekko/Kilia is one of these people. But in general, as a rule of thumb, most streamers are putting on an act when they do this kind of thing. They will be encouraged to do it by their peers, and given tips on how to maximize its effectiveness. It's just business.

One important point about the "bully with money" bit is it can actually work and get a streamer to break character, so it always has intrinsic appeal to those with a lot of means. Though, weirdly, I think Sinder's crash & burn sidelined one of the best at the strategy. Because clips of chat bullying her were far & away her best content. Because she'd say something dumb/strange/horny/borderline, Red would clip it and turn it into a sound emote, then they'd make a couple of hundred bucks from chat abusing her with whatever dumb thing she said. She really played into it well and it made great YT clip fodder.

She got to double dip on direct income and YT revenue/growth along with it. That's how she regularly got into my feeds.
