Clio says she's been in the basement the longest - 2 years as Sakana's post said. This was in response to someone joking about Pippa nepo-hiring.

On the day her teaching contract lapsed in 2023, Sakana slid into her DMs. No one knew she was in - for the most part.

What I'm getting from this is that when shit goes badly, either Sakana or Proctor will slide in your DMs immediately.

How so? Invaders are usually hand picked as far as I am aware. As for being like VShojo, I don't think they are that similar since Phase since A. they seem to openly joke about nepohires and embrace the idea and B. They don't appear to have favorites on hiring since our guessing pool was very off.

As has been discussed in recent days, Vshojo getting memed over nepohiring wasn't caused by the nepohiring itself, but rather by them holding pretend-auditions while already knowing who got in.
We can take for example a Phase Friend like Chinchilla, who IIRC applied, and imagine her frustration upon finding out that her application wasn't gonna be considered to begin with.

alternatively it shows that the wait between getting in and debut can be pretty long in phase, so just because someone didn't get in this gen doesn't mean they're not in for the next or negotiated into new ip gen. if they can be in wait for that long, the application for invaders could be the next invader gen not this one.

edit: i wish i had time to learn game design because it'd be amusing to make a phase fan game that's a reverse dungeon crawler with each gen being a party that's fighting their way up a series of basement levels until they finally escape and debut.

I agree but also if Clio was in the basement for 2 years can we really say that the public auditions which, if I'm wrong on this my apologies, came out much more recently involved Sleepy and Mari? We could honestly have another Invader Wave in 2 years if the others were picked up prior to public auditions. It feels like it is needless worry over something that is imaginary and while I feel bad for anyone who didn't make the cut it is good experience and hopefully leads the applicants to improve.

- Clio quits her dayjob and goes fulltime at the end of November 2023.
- Literally on the same day Fishman slides into her DMs to phasebeg.
- Initial agreement is reached pretty quickly, however that leaves them in a weird spot with Euphoria debuts, Kaleido debuts and Sakana not wanting to ACCELERATE too much.
- As a result, for a while, Clio is stuck in a weird limbo where she is supposed to join a company eventually, but also needs to grow her own brand to earn income as an indie. At the time, she doesn't know if anyone except Sakana was even aware of their agreement.
- This goes on presumably until pretty late into 2024, where she is finally revealed and "officially" joins the basement.
