I just realized that as CTO (chief technology officer) of Cover, Fukuda is probably the one pushing so hard for the game and metaverse shit, I went to his twitter (which I didn't know existed) and yep... it's pretty clear now why the company is burning so much money with so few results, it's the pet project of one of the top brass, just like stars was Yagoo's pet project.
If you don't like this direction then tough luck, if Yagoo is incapacitated or steps down then Fukuda is the most likely to replace him as literally the most senior employee in the company.

They call it "metaverse" but their idea seems to be much more in line with an MMO/Social Sim like Second Life or VR Chat.
You also have to take into account that while for us "metaverse" is basically a grifter buzzword, the nips don't see it that way and it has a much less negative connotation for them.
