Furfaggotry is cursed, but I at least get why it happens. Furry animals are cute, and I can see how someone with a particular strain of mental illness will cross wires with the kind of affection they'd show their dog and the kind of affection they'd show a romantic partner.
Bugs don't have that though, you either think bugs are cool or you think bugs are gross. There's no feeling there that someone with a few screws loose could mistake for some kind of intimacy, it just pops up out of nowhere.
What gives?
I'll go further than him and explain the appeal of monster girls as a concept:
One is obvious, and that is they are
exotic. Just like in the world, the exotic factor adds to attractiveness. As Pippa has said, if you want to get a girl/boyfriend, go to another country. Monster girls got that exoticism to a much larger degree.
The other, and I'd argue more important aspect, is the implied disconnect to humanity and society itself - and this being a positive. With a normal human woman, there is the expectation of not only normal human woman problems, but also just general difficulties in the daily lives of humans. Every problem you have, so too could a prospective partner. With an increasing amount of people being ill-equipped to dealing with all that troubles us, the desire to take on more in the form of another person is not really high.
With a monster girl, there lies the assumption that they don't have human problems. They probably have their own alien problems, but it would be something new and novel, and something you may actually be able to assist in - unlike your human problems that you already don't know how to deal with. You and your monster girl partner could help each other, having new perspectives to problems previously unthought of, instead of two humans having a growing amount of issues that neither can deal with. So the prospect of a happy couple is presumed to be vastly more likely.
Monster girls as a concept are different in more than just the immediate visual. Their appeal, in total, is that they are human-esque while not being human.
Furries, however, are total degenerate gay shit, fuck that faggotry.
