I used to think the same, but moved somewhere that I didn't feel safe letting mine out and they've seemed a lot happier once they got used to it.
Not sure if they still call it this, but back before the modern gaming battle royale craze Minecraft Hunger Games is what they called this mode. You can thank this game mode for what modern gaming has become, with a fucking BR mode shoved into everything.
