I'm just curious on how such a weirdly high population shadow network of the modern EN vtubing scene was birthed out of VR Chat.

Other than "person pretends to be cartoon character" there is like hardly any connection, especially given VR Chat isn't even a stream platform just a fucking game. So many of them just...became streamers...and became popular streamers...and became popular streamers behind a Live2D model...

It's actually less surprising than you think. VRChat was early VR, so early/new tech with teenagers getting involved. That means they had some means. VRChat would function as the early Chans did: a place where you could disassociate your public persona from your actions. That tends to go poorly for most. "Character Counts" lessons matter here.

But, that would also spawn tech-aligned networks that would see new & interesting spaces to move into. So, they got into Vtubing early, as streaming had already got going, but they didn't have to look good or be a try-hard gamer. These types of networks used to be more local & physical, it's just another version of that. Hopefully it doesn't turn out like the German Men's Walking Scene did.

They just run in the same circles, so when one finds success in something the others will follow suit. A lot of these people are tight-knit so they'll keep each other close, in some cases because they're actually friends, in others because they're scared of certain people's loose lips and want to make sure nothing embarrassing about themselves slips out.

It's a poisonous self-maintaining cycle that prevents these people from maturing properly. In most cases I'd say that someone being involved in a bunch of cringe sexual degeneracy in their late-teens/early twenties doesn't really speak to their character past Christmas cake age, but as long as they're sucking up to people who could humiliate them in an instant if they wanted to, they're never going to be able to mentally move past it.

Yeah, it's a bit of a mafia circle, but it'll be self-maintaining. This is the foundation for more government corruption, annoyingly enough. Once you can outline a "Power & Control Network", you can generally predict outcomes.

The only way to do an actual exposé is to go full double agent and infiltrate those circles and recollect information for years.



Unironically I will respect more Ironmouse if she admitted it, hell it would be even more touching on the heartstrings. You have this sick vtuber who also has a child and the only way to support her and herself is thanks to vtubing.

It's probably less the kid than more the father also gets dragged into it all. The relationship dynamic is also probably not something either party wants to talk about. Because Mouse's first major tailspin probably all but killed their relationship. So, I doubt either the father or Mouse would want that coming up much.

This is why I'm of two minds about it. Knowing how the modern internet/social media operates I tell any of my cousins or my brother who have kids DEAR GOD NEVER PUT PICTURES OF YOUR KIDS ON ANY PUBLIC SOCIAL MEDIA IN FACT YOU PROBABLY SHOULDN'T EVEN LET PEOPLE KNOW YOU HAVE KIDS. When they try and brush my advice off I show them pretty much just any Rainbolt video and watch the color drain out of their face.

So under that policy, Ironmouse is Ten Thousand Percent in the right for hiding her kid from the internet. Hell I would. But there's still the part of my lizard brain that's telling me -- yes, without good reason and just gutteral instinct -- that she's doing it for "the wrong reasons."

I just remember Menace suddenly being spammed in my recommendations from out of nowhere one day and thinking "this voice sounds familiar but I don't like this model very much" and clicked don't recommend. I went on an entire character arc here if you want to back read. She was first known as Megbert, cute dork who played DOTA2 and fighting games with a great cadence and no filter to bullshit, then was scouted to Cyberlive and became Menace Malchemillia, shifting from "GFE is cringe and gooners are banned on sight" to "ASMR artist". After Cyberlive went under (and she was ousted, accused of being a mean bitch to the lemon whore), she went back into being an indie, continuing her ASMR stuff until she disappeared for a while and came back as Coni.
Coni shares many visual traits with her self-made first design, Megbert, so old fucks like me were very excited because her content was good again. Yuko goons, Riro explodes and Aviel starts bashing his head against Brave Corp door to sell the company and now we have Coni almost never streaming, and when she does it's drunk ASMR or some shit like that.
She starts rebranding her Menace account to become Menace Mamaki under Mozu's wing (perhaps guidance, they share the slutty outfits designer), unprivates her ASMR stuff, moves in with Mozu, redebuts with decent followage and content. Then she starts gooning on YouTube again and gets hammered, moves to Fansly and the rest is history.
I'm summarizing a lot but you have the keywords to search for yourself. I'm past the five stages of grief already and just enjoying the ride. I like her now side-content (traditional gaming and talking) because you can feel she lost her shackles, but I think a bit of morals is good for everyone. At least she's not a grifting whore (yet) but I can see it happening if she starts breaking into 4view territory.
In a way, she and Bao would enjoy each other very well, as both were repressed sluts if their "progress" is to be taken seriously.
