Though I will say there is a difference between Politicians and People in Politics. Politicians make up the vast majority, and they are not human, they're tools for whatever special interest groups are paying them. People in Politics, however, are still human, but rarely make it to office - usually in a minor office, or something where they're so outnumbered (Congress) they may as well not exist.

Politics either filters decent people out of them, or filters decency out of those people.
A fairly popular example, i feel, is AOC. I have no trouble believing that she was genuine in her ideals and beliefs when she first got elected. Flash-forward a few years, and she's just another part of the blob, with barely any distinguishable qualities.
